Why would anybody want to keep such a dangerous animal as a pet?....and why would they throw it out of their home rather then send it to a zoo?
Is it possible that the snake had escaped as a youngster and survived outdoors by itself for some years?

The snake obviously out grew the owners tank .i have first hand experience ,on watching such an animal being feed .it belonged to the owner of a house.i was erecting a roof for ,and i had to open up the side of the existing roof ,to form the valleys .little did i know the pet python was later found up in the loft, where i was crawling through after escaping his tank ....scary

Ohmigod....you were dead lucky not to get squeezed and eaten alive..
I'm laughing at the snake owner who said he gave his Python to the zoo because his Python was psychotic...what did he expect?
