A scientific study claims that reading Kafka enhances cognitive mechanisms

click ..... this to read article....

As I understood the article... the claim suggests that when people are faced with an unusual unfamiliar circumstance such as reading Kafka's surreal story (I must read it), the unfamiliarity forces them to make sense of what they are seeing or reading so the brain has to quickly learn ways to find it acceptable and understandable..in that way they are getting mental exercise and will be better able for figuring out other puzzles?

And I thought to myself..well that's funny because I quite like it when my brain is challenged in that way but I hadn't realised that being stimulated could be for such a basic reason as in you've just been confused ....

What are your thoughts?

That is quite an interesting theory. Will also admit to now looking for Kafka's work to read, as anything to help train the brain is goed.

Studies also claim that games on computer consoles also help with memory and quick reflexes. Games haf already been proven to help with the elderly maintaining mental abilities.

There is a link within the article to Kafka's story

A Country Doctor

There's not many paragraphs, that is the only thing I found difficult to grasp when first reading it haha..

Even though really nicely written with an interesting side plot, well there were a few suprising things in it - it seemed like someone was enjoying a stream of consciousness exercise in writing but it was nicely crafted as well.

Good points stewy..I suppose as we have evolved it's as natural to us to be reasonably quick at tasks which the neanderthal took a while to figure out as breathing air..

But I'm wondering about the idea of presenting a theory you want a person to learn in peculiar language forcing them to think a little harder is quite clever really ..and I don't mean writing in an academic language but just being a little different in how you put something across..

haha..funny thing about Shakespeare and a lot of poetry for me was as I kid I just simply couldn't relate.

I didn't have the maturity at all to understand the ideas..and I am such a romantic soul really..

Maybe if they taught me in absurd ways, I'd have done massively well in my education

The absurd..it stops you in your tracks and makes you read every word!!

Mirror, Mirror
by Spike Milligan

A young spring-tender girl
combed her joyous hair
'You are very ugly' said the mirror.
But,
on her lips hung
a smile of dove-secret loveliness,
for only that morning had not
the blind boy said,
'You are beautiful'?
